May 2013

Dear Memorial Families,

From the last day of school this year until the first day of school in 2014-15 Memorial will be in the “Construction Zone”. The results will be a bigger, remodeled Media Center and four new classrooms. All of the work is being performed within the constraints of the District budget. There will be no bonds or tax increases to complete the project. A benefit of the project is that we will no longer have to bus some of our pre-school students to another building. Additionally, the addition will provide several new areas to serve students.

The construction project is going to impact student drop off and pick up. The construction fence is going to extend into the west side turn-around. Therefore we will need to use to the early turn-around. Students will be dropped off and picked up from the sidewalk on the west end of the building. The parking spots nearest the playground will be blocked off to facilitate this procedure. A detailed map will be provided before next school year.

The sidewalk on the south end of the building will also be obstructed. Therefore, students dropped off in front, including bus students, will have to enter into the building through the main entry door. Considering theses constraints, we will eliminate the morning blacktop line-up procedure and line up in the building.

The door Kindergarten and Pre-Kindergarten students are currently dismissed from will also be impassable. Kindergarten and Pre-Kindergarten students will be re-routed to door #4. This is the door that is currently used by intermediate students.

Detailed entrance and dismissal procedures will be included in the 2013-13 school year information packet. Expect to receive this packet in early August. I have detailed the changes here in order to give you a sneak preview of what is coming. The construction project may be inconvenient during the 2013-14 school year, but the final results will be well worth it.

Sincerely,

Mike Donovan
